| Due to the ever
stricter environmental regulations as well as tendency of costs
reduction in production, fish farming current trend is more and more
oriented towards the use of bigger off-shore cages. In
view of these trends, high reliability of the net cages is an essential
prerequisite. The reliability of the net cages, i.e. the capability to
retain fish avoiding therefore the risk of escape, depends on the
following factors: 1. Netting breaking strength; 2. Loss of strength due to wear and tear of net for use; 3. High quality of assembled products; The above elements can be hugely affected by raw materials used for nets manufacture as well as the method adopted for construction. Fully aware of all these aspects, Badinotti, as one of the major net suppliers, uses the most modern machinery offering a wide range of knotless netting in nylon, polyester, polypropylene, and polyethylene for aquaculture application. |

| Due to changing
operation protocols
and environmental regulations on the salmon farms, new methods for
washing of nets was required, particularily for nets treated with
copper antifouling paint. To meet this challenge, Badinotti Net Services Canada added a net washing service to the Net Services Division in Campbell River in 2002. The major components of the investment included, Net washers, cranes, a tank farm, concrete containment, and industrial waste treatment equipment. Net washing facilityThe Net wash facility is located in Campbell River in the Industrial Park on a 1 acre lot close to the Net Disinfection and Dipping Facility to maintain efficiencies of the operation and reduce costs for the farmers. High capacity Badinotti Net Services Canadahas 2 net washers and 2 cranes to maintain redundancy in the net wash operation at all times. The doubling up on major equipment ensures that fish farmers deadlines for nets are always met without interruptions from mechanical breakdowns. In addition, the net washers were designed and the cranes lifting capacities chosen to exceed any present or future size and weight of fouled "dirty" nets which may be encountered in the fish farm industry. |

| Dirty Nets are
brought to the Net wash facility in sealed containerized
trailers so that all debris (mussel shells, kelp, and copper
antifouling paint) is contained during the transport process. The nets are unloaded into concrete containment ponds so that all debris is contained with no chance for the copper to reach the ground and water table. During the net wash process the dirty copper contaminated water and debris runs through a series of baffles and a sidehill screen to remove the heavy coarser organic solids. Environmentally responsible The dirty copper water is chemically treated in a two stage process to clear the water of all fine organic matter and to bind up a large percentage of the copper itself. All the cleaned up water is available for reuse for net washing. The sludge settled out in the chemical process is then pumped through a filter press to dewater the sludge. All water collected from the Filter press is also available and reused in the washing procedure. Dry sludge is disposed of via an Environmental waste handling company. The sludge is transported to the mainland where any remaining copper leachate is fixed so that the sludge can then be disposed of in an environmentally responsible way as inert fill. Badinotti Net Services Canada offers full traceability records for all copper waste including registered manifests with the Provincial Ministry of Environment. |

| NET DISINFECTION Available in Canada (Campbell River-BC) and Slovakia (Roznava) |

| The Campbell
River net disinfection,
repair and dip facility consists of a 10,000 square feet warehouse
facility on 2 acres of land in the industrial park, while in Roznava
are available approx 200 sq.mt. All nets received at the site must enter through the disinfection area to maintain the biosecurity of the site. Fish farmers like all farmers want to ensure that all precautions are taken to protect the fish from unwanted bacterial or viral infections. Consequently, clean nets are submerged for 1 hour into an enclosed tank with 60 degree C water using an overhead crane to ensure proper disinfection. Once the nets are disinfected they are allowed to enter the yard and warehouse area. Heat exchangers and a natural gas boiler are used to ensure the disinfection process is economically as well as biologically efficient. |

| Staff are trained
to repair nylon and
PE netting of all sizes and shapes including predator nets, bird nets,
seines, grading panels, and conventional fish farm nets. Nets are strength tested according to the Provincial Government Aquaculture Regulations of Canada and the NS9415. If the nets pass the minimum breaking strength requirements then the nets are inspected for holes as well as for wear and tear. Repairs are completed and the net is then bundled for transport to the farms or is prepared for dipping with antifoulant copper paint. Badinotti's staff are also trained and qualified to modify nets to customers specifications such as wedging, deepening, flat bottoms, cone bottoms, mort ring set ups, chafe panels, rib lines, seines and catch nets. |

| The antifouling
is used by the fish farm industry for several reasons as follows: 1. Maximizes the time of deployment of the nets in saltwater. 2. Reduces the wear and tear on the nets by reducing the number of cleanings and handlings of the nets required per production cycle. 3. Most importantly allows the fish nets to stay clean for extended periods of time (8 to 12 months) thus allowing the maximum flow of oxygenated water to reach the fish in the pens which provide the fish with optimum rearing conditions for growth and health. In the first step of the process, the nets are dried in the heated insulated warehouses (34 degrees C) using a state of art net drier. Once the net is dry it is prepared and bundled for dipping in a 7000 litre tank with antifoulant paint. The copper based antifouling paint used is approved and registered with the Canadian Federal Government for use in Aquaculture. After dipping the net is dried a second time, bundled and wrappped so as to provide the maximum benefit of the antifouling to the net once the net is deployed on the farm. |

| A purse seine is made of a long
wall of netting framed with floatline and leadline (usually, of equal
or longer length than the former) and having purse rings hanging from
the lower edge of the gear, through which runs a purse line made from
steel wire or rope which allow the pursing of the net. For most of the
situation, it is the most efficient gear for catching large and small
pelagic species that is shoaling. Badinotti Perù produces complete purse seine tailor made. |
